Crash site dummies

YOUNG drivers in Guernsey and Jersey have been bragging about their high-speed car crashes on an internet site. More than 250 of them are using the social networking site Facebook to revel in the accidents.

‘Gsy & Jsy Car Crashes’ group encourages the so-called Kevs to post images and descriptions of smashes they have had – and excessive speed is a common feature. But those doing so have been condemned as ‘crash dummies’ for causing danger in the way they drive.

Jersey police are investigating the 86 images on the site. Guernsey police were unaware of the group when contacted by the Guernsey Press and had no comment to make.

However, a motorist who nearly died in a car crash has condemned others for boasting about their accidents on a website. And the man behind the site, Bobby Ceillam, has criticised the unintended use of the Facebook group.

Tom Le Prevost, 21, spent four months in hospital after losing control of his Nissan Skyline and colliding with a granite pillar at North Side, St Sampson’s, in February.

‘You shouldn’t boast about crashes,’ said Mr Le Prevost. ‘It’s not clever. It’s good if people put up pictures to warn against it, but they shouldn’t boast about speeding or how stupid they were being. However, you can’t control what is put up on the internet.’

in the UK if you brag about speeding etc. and show proof on the Internet you can get done retrospectively, good job.

I wonder if these idots and low-life would have been bragging if they managed to kill one of their mates or family members or even a poor innocent child who happened to be a passenger in any of the other vehicles involved ? GROW UP and learn by your mistakes and perhaps you will all become better drivers – crashing a vehicle is something to be embarrased about generally, not something which makes you a hero – it often shows that you are a poor driver who needs to learn better driving skills !!

Since it seems to take months for miscreants to be taken to Court these days it will give the Police plenty of time to monitor this site and produce evidence to rebut forked tongued tax payer funded lawyers who plead how remorseful their client is and to please let him off with a warning this one last time, and to please not invoke the half dozen previous suspended sentences he has hanging over him from a period when his life was in turmoil because of the loss of a distant cousin twice removed

At he very least they should be made to retest with an enhanced driving skills test. A probationary period not allowing them to drive any vehicle over a certain amount of HP output would be another positive step.

If Mister Ceillam is so hideousouly dissapointed at the misuse of this website, then it only takes a mouse click on facebook to close the group and end its presence.
Sure, someone else might set their own up- but his name won’t be up there labelled as its “Creator”- then i might believe him just a smidgen more.

Let them scrape each other up off of the roads – thats their call… but its when these idiots affect innocent peoples lives that we have a problem….

Idiots in cars on our roads – just another thing that need addressing that the states ignore….

You can delete them, as an owner you can contact facebook admin directly and ask for the complete removal.

You will always have idiots in cars, the only difference was years ago you were lucky if you could own and insure a 1 litre metro, now the idiots are behind skylines and scoobys and most of these are performance modded.

I bet if you checked half of them haven’t declared the mods making their insurance worthless.

Why don’t these muppets join the thriving Channel Island motorsport scene and put their supposed fast driving skills ( if you can call them that) to a proper test rather than wasting time and money on fast road cars that they are obviously not capable or legally able to drive properly?

    Whoooopi!!

In the good old days such people were simply forced to join the army…

Not a bad idea if you ask me..

Come to think of it, don`t you think we could do with some of our own daredevils on the front line in Afganistan and/or Iraq..
Just give them each a land rover and point them in the appropriate direction..

A good way to clear the minefields in advance of the movement of regular troups.

To get a firearms certificate is practically impossible,to get a driving license is as easy as falling off a horse, and far more people die from incompetant drivers than those possesing weapons.

You write utter rubbish. Why don’t we relax firearm laws then and see what this will bring. Going into town will quickly become a scene more like New York, London or moss side. Guns are not dangerous in themselves but the person in charge of the weapon can become lethal. We are all capable of anything. Did you miss the media on the double shooting by a firearms certified user, you must have?

Let’s hope that many people have checked out the site, noted the names of the losers that are on it and start making these people feel like the social pariahs that they really are.

Let’s start making their lives hell (legally of course) by letting them know what useless little scumbags they are. These people will never amount to anything in life so it’s time we let them know that.

Why does guernsey allow such high performance cars on its roads anyway? The so called speedlimit is only 35mph so it seems such a waste of a potentially good car. By not having enough long straight roads cant that be harmfull both to car and environment? It seems that such a small island does not need such big cars so why not downsize ALL cars i am sure that there is no need for zooped up cars or giant 4x4s on an island like guernsey ITS TOO SMALL.

Its like cats and dogs on here.

Rather than commenting on other people’s driving skills take a look at your own. Touch wood, keep fingers crossed that you will not be involved in a serious accident.

Guernsey have such small roads, too small even for a 35mph limit. Maybe if you people drove responsibly, maybe there wouldn be any accidents. Speed is factor of accidents but not always. When you drive fast, you are obviously more aware on what you are doing rather than someone who is driving slow and breaking the law by entering into a no-entry road and not stopping at a yellow line!

    Paul:
I believe what thomas is saying is that yes speed Can be a factor in crashes, but often they are just due to not paying attention.
Whereas if you are driving at high speeds you know the risk of a crash is increased so you tend to pay more attention.
I am not saying this goes for everyone however, as this site has proved.

this will be teenagers unfortunately. Teenagers know virtually nothing about anything, they actually make me feel quite angry about this. Other people innocents in these incidents could have had their lives ruined. Im all for increasing the age for driving to 25. Lets keep the kids off the roads.

SQ… if only that was true!

It’s not just teenagers, it’s folk well into their twenties. On the mainland some of the most reckless drivers are ‘respected businessmen’, some in their 30s and 40s.

What we need is to remove the ‘right’ to have a driving licence and actually make the test MUCH harder (like Finland’s for instance) and then make it a ’2 strikes and you’re out’ rule for reckless or dangerous driving (and this does not necessarily mean just excessive speed). 2 warnings and if you’re caught a third time your licence is revoked PERMANENTLY with absolutely no chance of getting it back when you’re older.

I think 2 warnings is plenty and honestly believe this kind of system is the only way to solve the problem. We should not assume that everyone can have a driver’s licence, it should be well and truly earned!
