Meeting the Icelandic finance minister leaves Trott bullish

Thursday 30th October 2008, 2:29PM GMT.

0649162.jpgLANDSBANKI Guernsey customers hopeful of significant news on the their savings heard yesterday that Chief Minister Lyndon Trott had met the Icelandic finance minister and come away with his mobile phone number and an assurance that he would visit Guernsey.

But no more will be known about the recovery of the bank’s assets until later this week or early next.

Asked for an update on the situation, Deputy Trott told members that it was important any action by the States did not interfere with the work of the administrator.

On 22 October Deputy Trott (pictured) wrote to Icelandic minister of finance Arni Mathiesen seeking his endorsement of the assurance given for financial support by the parent of Landsbanki Guernsey.

This followed a similar request made on 13 October by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission to the Icelandic regulator.

Deputy Trott was in Helsinki on Tuesday to sign tax information exchange agreements with the Nordic nations and had met the finance minister after requesting to do so.

    BRAVO!!

    Credit where credit is due.

Good for you Chief Minister Lyndon Trott!

    ..I will say that again…

Good for you Chief Minister Lyndon Trott!!

    Jolly well done!

Keep up the pressure. Guernseys reputation along with the savings of manu UK and other country’s citizens may yet be saved…

I appreciate your efforts as do many others in the same or similar situatiion as I now find myself.. Thousands of miles from home with little if any good news to hearten me..

…But for the chance of Iceland doing “the right thing”.. I like many others have little prospect of recovering my savings which were deposited in the Landsbanki Guernsey branch.

Please Sir… Do all that you can to make the Icelanders pay up what they said they would.
