£1m. lottery a third of the way to a sell-out
Tuesday 4th November 2008, 11:30AM GMT.
The first day queue outside the former Post Office in Smith Street to buy tickets for the £1m. lottery.
IN JUST two days, the Million Pound Lottery has sold a third of its 5,000 tickets.
Organisers said yesterday that volunteers have sold 1,500 since the lottery opened on Saturday.
‘It’s wonderful that we have sold so many so quickly,’ said Jack Honeybill, chairman of the Friends of Les Bourgs Hospice and lottery organiser.
‘It is astounding. People seem to have really enjoyed having a flutter and also supporting Les Bourgs. I’ve been delighted with it all.’
He has been particularly impressed with islanders’ perseverance in the bad weather.
‘So many people have been outside getting frozen and wet in the queue. But the people have all been fantastic and have been queuing in a very orderly fashion. Today the queue was so long we didn’t finish selling to them until 3.30pm.’
The organisers are now keen to sell the last 3,500 tickets just as swiftly.

Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
I have queued for my entire lunch hour Monday & Tuesday and still have not got a ticket.
I feel many people are in the same position as I am.
Why not make some available by internet for those of us who work so dont have time to spend the whole day trying to buy a ticket?
