MORE than 100 girls took their first steps in soccer at the recent Girls Football Festival at Foote’s Lane.

Ten teams of players made up from Years 5 and 6 from the island’s primary schools took part.

With 12 in a squad, a total of seven players and rolling subs made up each side on the pitch.

‘It all fitted together,’ said organiser Garry Cortez.

‘Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. Hopefully we’ll do a similar sort of thing in February so that the girls get a continuation of football.’

Cortez also said that a number of the budding female players who played were now getting involved with the GFA’s Soccer School for Girls which is held weekly on Thursday evenings at Foote’s Lane.

For more information, contact GFA secretary Neil Laine on 200443.
