SHIP & CROWN PUFFINS jumped to the top of the Investec Women’s Division One with a 3-0 victory over Vixens at the weekend.
The goals came courtesy of promising junior Megan Stewart, with two, and joint-captain Alex Hanna at a short corner.
But Vixens, who are currently looking for a sponsor, produced a performance that they could be proud of. Their sweeper Caroline Matthews was particularly impressive.
‘I was very pleased everyone kept working so hard in the second half as the weather conditions were appalling and yet we all remained focused on the task,’ said club stalwart Jayne Carter.
The three points meant Puffins joined AP Group Panthers on nine, but are ahead due to a better goal difference.
Last year’s champions Panthers also tasted success in the latest round of matches when they got the better of the newly-formed Legis Independents, 5-3.
