THE presidents of the island’s Division One clubs have revealed their misgivings about Guernsey United. which in turn has taken a first swipe at the GFA.
In a letter to the sports department of the Guernsey Press, Rovers secretary Brian Horsepool laid out 11 points and questions that the presidents have regarding Guernsey United.
All seven club presidents signed the letter. They centre on the effect United would have on the infrastructure of the game locally and while the clubs are ‘not against the provision of facilities for Guernsey’s better players to play off-island’, they would rather it be made possible through island representative teams.
‘Because Guernsey’s better players are talking about it regularly, we felt we wanted to put some of our views out,’ said Horsepool.
Guernsey United has been a controversial topic since it was announced in September.
In principle, it would see the newly formed club enter a UK semi-professional league, most likely the Kent League, which is several levels above local football.
But it would theoretically mean that the GFA clubs would lose their best players to it.
