THREE visiting sides went away with the main trophies after another hugely successful Guernsey Volleyball Open.

Five home teams were joined by 22 others over the weekend at Beau Sejour and it was Mavericks, Ashcombe and Anglesey One who emerged as winners of the women’s, men’s and mixed categories respectively.

Although the organisers’ hopes of a smooth event were dealt an early blow as two teams were delayed on a flight from Gatwick, the first match was moved to the end of the opening day’s play to get the tournament back on schedule and once again the open was enjoyed by all.

The trophies were presented at a gala dinner at St Pierre Park, where Ashcombe’s young setter Diana Hasanova and Colin Rex from the Royal Navy received the Most Valuable Player awards.
