ALEX LE PREVOST’S volleyed winner was worthy of winning any game, including this one at Northfield, a modern classic of local Division One football.

But had Chris Le Noury not missed a sitter deep into five minutes of added time, Saints would have snatched a 6-6 draw on the very day this paper celebrated the supposed game of all games, the 12-goal Jeremie Cup classic of 1962.

North were involved that day too, but while it is generally accepted the chocolate-and-blues were fortunate to grab a draw that day 46 years ago, in all fairness they deserved to win this one.

They had the game seemingly wrapped up when Olly McKenzie shot them 4-1 ahead just 30 seconds into the second period.

But, remarkably, Saints hit three in a shade less than two minutes to make it 4-4, then went 5-4 ahead before North hit a deserved leveller and then fashioned Le Prevost’s 81st minute winner.
