0670157.jpgTREVOR GALLIENNE has retained the Bar Billiards World Championship.

In action in Jersey over the weekend, the 52-year-old local bookmaker took care of England number one Kevin Tunstall in the final to become only the third player in 27 years to successfully defend the title.

It is also the third time that Gallienne (pictured) has been crowned world champion after first winning the competition in 1988.

More than 200 players were entered into the tournament.

‘I’m massively pleased,’ said Gallienne, ‘I suppose even more so this year because I had an incredibly difficult group.’

In the final Tunstall broke off and after feeling his way a little, he seemed to have got to grips with the speed of the table, regularly playing the 50-pocket, 100-pocket ‘split’ to get the break back.

But with his score at 3,070, he unbelievably left both balls short on his one up shot to let Gallienne in a lot earlier than might have been expected.
