‘A blatant misrepresentation’ says Harper

0541230.jpgFORMER deputy police chief Lenny Harper (pictured) has hit back at claims that he released ‘misleading’ information while leading La Haut de la Garenne investigation.

He told BBC News: ‘My first reaction is of great disappointment at the blatant misrepresentation of things that I am supposed to have said, by David Warcup.

‘He says that we were claiming there was a murder… I always said all along that we had no evidence of homicide.’

Mr Harper said police had merely stated that they had been treating the home as a ‘homicide scene’ and that officers had never labelled the cellars ‘torture chambers’.

‘The victims were telling us that they were lowered down into these rooms, which we made clear in our media statements used to be the ground floor,’ he said.

He added that Mr Warcup’s comments came at ‘an opportune time’ for the Jersey States – a report into the island’s care system by the Howard League for Penal Reform is due to be released tomorrow.

It’s all getting a bit nasty/fishy. At the moment Lenny Harpers’ words hold water and the new investigators seem to be smeering theirs.

The politics is becoming almost as disgraceful as what went on and in danger of overshadowing a thorough investigation which must not be sacrificed on the alter of political posturing and power play.

Keep your chin up Mr Harper. The public trust and respect you massively. It would seem that the only people that wish to discredit you have something to hide for whatever reason. This backbiting has absolutely no merit whatsoever. If questions need answering then the sensible time would be after all the sick abusers are behind bars paying for their sick crimes. Its time to concentrate on the crimes themselves. Let procedural matters be perfected once all is concluded.
