GUERNSEY have been put into World Cricket League Division Seven and look likely to host the competition next year.

A source in Dubai, where the International Cricket Council is based, revealed as much to the Guernsey Press yesterday and it was confirmed by the ICC Europe regional development manager Richard Holdsworth.

The island will take on Gibraltar, Bahrain, Japan, Nigeria and Surinam in the week-long tournament.

‘It’s great news and it would be great if Guernsey hosted the tournament,’ said Holdsworth. He went on to say that the ICC would name the host by Christmas.

But it is known that the powers-that-be in world cricket are fans of Guernsey.

The Bailiwick has three grounds with grass wickets and due to the fact Guernsey is a small island, internal travel costs are reduced.
