LEGIS INDEPENDENTS caused the biggest upset so far in the 2008-09 Investec Women’s Division when they beat last year’s champions AP Group Panthers at the weekend.

The stunning 4-1 victory at Foote’s Lane was also the newly-formed and bottom-placed Indies’ first ever win.

‘I’m over the moon,’ said Independents captain Debbie Hunter. ‘There was great team spirit and it was a great team performance. We’ve been building up to that and I hope that it continues for the rest of the season.’

It was Indies who started the stronger with the ever-improving youngster Chloe Dawes partnering Pip Bowyer in attack. This great mix of youth and experience up front worked well for the Indies.

It was Bowyer who scored the first with a fast break and coolly slotted reverse-stick strike.
