‘Sort it’

DAVID HARRY is not concerned by reports that the 2010 Commonwealth Games could be moved from Delhi if a dispute over the construction of the athletes’ village is not resolved.
‘I’m sure they will overcome the problems that are being exhibited now,’ said the vice chairman of the Guernsey Commonwealth Games Association (pictured).
‘The same sorts of thing were happening before 2006 [Melbourne Commonwealth Games]. It’s something that we see cropping up before every Games – some factions don’t like this, some factions don’t like that.
‘I’m quite certain that the organisers have a handle on it and that the Commonwealth Games Association will make sure that they do.’
The Games, featuring 71 countries, are due to be held in India from 3-14 October, 2010.
The problem lies with the fact the athletes’ village is being built on the banks of the Yamuna river, a fact which has been embroiled in a legal tussle after environmental groups protested the construction would ruin the river bed.

Well this is a better statement then what I saw with regards to the State of the New Delhi Games and linking this to Developing nations in the Commonwealth Staging sports festivals. I have researched the candidates for the 2014 games and I have no doubt that Glasgow will have her share of problems. To me the bench mark of a vote for a host should be Who has the most Facilities that meet the various Sports Federation requirements on the ground ready . Ironically for 2014 that was Abuja.
Abuja has a Schuermann Velodrome that both New Delhi and Glasgow must construct, They have a 60000 seats new IAAF Class One Stadium , They have a great sports park with a Fina Accredited Aquatics Centre among a host of other facilities built to the Highest standards. Abuja in two years could do these games with a construction industry domestically that is probably one of the most efficient in the World. Sadly Sometimes Voters are sold a bill of goods that are promise that can’t be kept. Glasgow 2014′s Capital Porject Schedule will be to the last hour simply because the Financial crisis is putting a strain on credit resources for private developers involved. Projects have already been delayed in Glasgow as the funding is hard to find.
Abuja does not have that problem and the entire Capital Territory is under the control of the Government for Land issues.
