700 mourners pay their respects to ‘Jay’

HUNDREDS of people packed St Peter’s Church yesterday to celebrate the life of Jason Piriou.
More than 700 friends and family filled the building and its grounds to say goodbye to Jay, as they knew him.
The 37-year-old president of the Guernsey Milk Retailers’ Association died suddenly two weeks ago while fishing from rocks below La Rocque Poisson near his St Peter’s home.
His eco-friendly coffin, decorated with photographs, arrived at the church on the back of his milk float amid a procession of 18 others.
Mr Piriou coached the Guernsey under-12s football team and Sylvans youth team which, wearing black armbands as a mark of respect, formed a guard of honour as the coffin was brought in.
‘In his short life, Jason gave so much more than he took,’ said the Rev. John Ironside.
He led the service and spoke on behalf of Jason’s wife, Kerry, who said her husband would always be remembered as having a beaming smile and a playful nature.
