THE coach of Guernsey’s new American football team picked up some tips when he was part of the coaching team for Tennessee Titans’ recent NFL match with Indianapolis Colts.
Earlier this year, Steve Rains, the former coach of British National League outfit Farnham Fast Lane Knights who was also recently named the new coach of the Great Britain Youth team, moved to the Bailiwick and set about resurrecting the island’s American football side, which was disbanded more than 10 years ago.
He has just returned from the US where he spent two days at the Tennesse Titans in Nashville with a contact of his, Richie Wessman, who is an offence-coaching administrator with the NFL team.
Wessman is also a former University of Southern California, USC Trojans, quarterback.
Rains was privileged to be on the sidelines with the Titans team as they recorded an impressive 31-21 victory over Indianapolis Colts.
Rains spent the day before at the Titans’ state-of-the-art practice facility.
‘I use these trips to brush up on my knowledge and in particular I will be introducing some new QB drills to both the Guernsey players and my GB Youth squad that were picked up on this visit,’ said Rains.
