A BUS driver has received an award for the calm, controlled way in which he dealt with a violent situation.
Manuel de Avezedo, 34, had been threatened by a passenger who said he had a knife. He received a Crime Prevention Panel certificate at the annual police awards ceremony.
Mr Avezedo, who was born in Madeira, had not expected to receive the accolade.
‘I was very surprised,’ he said.
Mr Avezedo is still a bus driver but wonders at the back of his mind what might have happened.
‘I have been living on the island for 13 years and have never seen anything like that before.
‘I am worried that the offender might do it again,’ he said.

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
I think there should be an assault screen that stops the driver from being attacked and a panic alarm.
