St Martin’s 2, Bels 2
THIS was a stalemate that neither side wanted but both probably deserved.
St Martin’s were left ruing several missed chances in the first half, including a penalty, that should have given them a much more comfortable cushion at the interval than the one goal they had.
Bels, having weathered that storm, then failed to hold on to the lead once Dave Rihoy had established it with a goal out of the top drawer.
Once Saints levelled things again with 10 minutes to go, both sides appeared eager to find a winner, yet neither showed any composure in trying to do so and, therefore, both failed.
‘We had the upper hand in the first half, created some very good chances mainly through Winchy’s [Jason Winch] crosses into the box and scored a good goal, but should have had more,’ said Saints assistant coach Glyn Smith.
‘In the second half the quality just did not come through. You could not fault the effort, but it was a day when we lacked the quality we needed as we looked for a winner.’
