Grammar 3, St Sampson’s High 0

GRAMMAR SCHOOL caused something of a shock last night as they beat pre-match favourites St Sampson’s High 3-0 in the Years 8 and 9 Sigma Cup final.

They took the lead in the first 10 minutes at Northfield when winger Joe Collenette got on the end of a fine Jamie Salmon corner.

They added to that 15 minutes later as Salmon fed Charlie Tostevin and the striker made no mistake in putting the ball away.

While Grammar had the rub of the green in the early stages, cup holders St Sampson’s started to apply some pressure midway through the opening half.

Grammar’s goalkeeper Cashel Cahill was forced into making a top class save in a one-on-one situation with Liam Santos on the stroke of half-time.

Cahill went on to make a string of outstanding stops off Santos and St Sampson’s tricky winger Danny Hale during the second half in a man-of-the-match performance. They just could not find a way past the tall keeper.
