Cardiff beaten, Taunton run close

IT WAS a mixed bag of results for the Guernsey women’s team in their latest National League matches, but good enough to satisfy coach Pat Ogier.
After defeating last year’s runners-up Cardiff Celts 74-60, they went down 73-59 to league leaders Taunton Tigers.
‘All in all it was a successful weekend,’ said Ogier (pictured). ‘We played well in both games and with a bit more concentration and luck we could have got closer to Taunton. Having now played everyone once, we feel comfortable in this league and believe that on our day we can beat anyone.
‘The girls have seen the competition and can’t wait to face all the teams again.’
The greens were looking to get their season back on track in Cardiff after their two previous matches had seen them lose to South Birmingham Bears and City of Bristol Storm.
Both Guernsey and Cardiff started slowly but midway through the opening quarter, the game burst into life, with the island side edging into the lead on the back of some aggressive offensive rebounding.
Greens captain Liz Kerr and Amy Wright led the way with support from Jenny Rees and Gemma Loveridge off the bench.
