HUNDREDS of islanders took the chance to see the Barclays Premier League Trophy on Saturday. The famous piece of silverware was at Beau Sejour on an exclusive visit to celebrate Barclays Wealth’s sponsorship deal with Rangers Football Club.

Among the viewers were senior and junior members of the club. Senior player Phil Sarl, 27, said he was impressed by the trophy.

‘I have never seen it before and I’m really glad that it has come here,’ he said. ‘It’s great for all the kids to see it and it’s definitely a good experience. I will probably have got closer to it than my team, Liverpool, will do this season.’

He said it was not only good for the club, but for the whole community. The trophy, which was accompanied by two security guards, was back in London for Match of the Day on Saturday evening.

Ranger’s minis player Jack Medhurst, 10, is also a Liverpool fan. He said he had been very excited about the prospect of seeing the cup. ‘We didn’t have training today because of it being here and I prefer being here,’ he said.
