SATURDAY was a good one for the Le Mont Saint club in the Yorkshire Guernsey Division One.

After its loss to Collins Stewart the previous weekend and having seen the Le Mont Saint Fiat go down at the hands of Collins Stewart Inferno and then the island under-21s on Wednesday night, both teams were desperate for a win to kick-start a championship which promises to be closer than ever.

The Le Mont Saint outfits duly got their wishes at Beau Sejour with Le Mont Saint getting the better of the under-21s 62-58, before Fiat took care of reigning champions Collins Stewart 62-55.

‘We’re starting to work together as a team and it showed today,’ said Fiat’s Mark Barnett after the game.

Collins Stewart took the first quarter 18-16, but mainly thanks to the efforts of Barnett, who finished top scorer with 22 points, and Shekouba Sesay, Fiat won the second 27-8 to effectively set up the victory.

Although Collins Stewart did come back in the last two quarters as Fiat failed to get to the ball to Barnett and Sesay as much as they had done earlier, it was not enough.
