GuernseyFinance funding targeted

Tuesday 25th November 2008, 2:29PM GMT.

0618761.jpgTWO deputies want to change the way GuernseyFinance is funded.

Janine Le Sauvage (pictured) and Mike Hadley believe that taxpayers’ money could be spent more effectively than by using hundreds of thousands of pounds of it to promote the finance industry. They each plan to take the matter to the States with an amendment.

Deputy Hadley, who has just resigned from the Department of Health and Social Services, said the money was more desperately needed in that area and should be moved immediately, especially as the finance industry could afford to support itself. Deputy Le Sauvage said that after years of raising the issue, she was frustrated by the lack of debate on the subject.

Deputy Hadley said: ‘Every time I want to do something to help disabled people and children, I am asked where the money will come from. Well, this is a nice pot of money that is not desperately needed where it is and could be better used.

I agree with Deputies Janine Le Sauvage and Mike Hadley that taxpayers’ hundreds of thousands of pounts could be spent more effectively than on Guernsey Finance.

It could be spent on repaying Landsbanki Guernsey Ltd savers. This would help to restore Guernsey’s shattered reputation, which would bring more money into the States’ coffers to spend on health and social services.

I feel that the only people that will disagree with the above will be the banking sector themselves.

The fact of the matter is we need to weed out our unnecessary overspends and stop them altogether!

This is a nice start. How about more money saving and productive statements from more of our elected then?

Upbeat lies just aren’t cutting the mustard any more!
