A BOXING coach at the Amalgamated Boys’ Club has been cleared of assaulting a junior as the club prepares to face the Dagenham Police and Community team tomorrow.

The club’s secretary, Paul Ferbrache, confirmed that the police had arrested one of the coaches last month, but he had since been cleared. Ferbrache did not reveal who the coach was, but it is understood to be head coach Graham Guilbert.

Guilbert declined to comment when asked, but he was more than happy to discuss his side’s match with Dagenham in tomorrow evening’s Dinner Boxing Show at St Pierre Park Hotel.

The island’s leading boxer, Matt Jennings, has to sit out yet another show as the 31-year-old cruiserweight has not been matched with an opponent.

‘He’s a bit sick [about it],’ said Guilbert. ‘I’ve tried his old opponent from the ABA Championships, but he’s got a damaged hand. He’s got to wait now until 30 January to fight. I’ve already got two opponents lined up.’
