ATTACKS in the Indian city of Mumbai have cast a shadow over Commonwealth Games plans for India in 2010.
A team of young Guernsey sportsmen and women travelled through the city, formerly known as Bombay, to Pune, 125 miles south of the capital, where the Youth Games were held between 12 and 18 October.
‘It could have been us,’ said David Harry, Guernsey Commonwealth Youth Games team manager.
‘We arrived in Mumbai just a month ago. We could have been caught up in it. It is very frightening.’
A team of 10 sportsmen and women under 18, five managers and various parents went to the Games.
So far, one Briton has been reported killed and seven injured after gunmen mounted attacks across the city.
A number of high-profile locations in the main tourist and business district came under fire late on Wednesday.
