States wins right to agree UK deal

0676693.jpgDEPUTIES challenged Chief Minister Lyndon Trott’s authority yesterday.

The power struggle came as members successfully argued that the States should explicitly agree to him signing off a new international identity framework document.

Policy Council members who thought he had been delegated authority to sign said he would be rendered ‘impotent’ if the Assembly backed that move.

And Deputy Trott appeared to have done himself few favours with dissenters when, just hours before the debate, he gave an interview in which he said he should be able to hire and fire ministers.

Deputy Matt Fallaize (pictured) placed an amendment to the document report that would give the States the final say – the Policy Council had wanted members only to ‘note’ the report.

So deputy Trott would like the power to hire and fire ministers. You can always spot a dictator wearing a democratic suit, the power they wield is never enough.
