Aurigny tightens its checks after mystery cancellation

0454511.jpgAN AURIGNY passenger was left upset and annoyed after finding out anyone could cancel his booking.

David White, 27, had booked to travel to Jersey for the weekend on Friday 21 November but upon arrival at the airport was told that somebody had phoned up to cancel the booking the previous day.

‘We had booked online and therefore nobody else would have been able to get the reference number for the flight,’ said Mr White. ‘Whoever did it just gave a name and didn’t have to give any identification or the number.’

He was upset at the airline’s lack of security over cancellations. ‘There is no protection over it and there’s no law against it, either,’ he said.

Aurigny managing director Malcolm Hart said the company did not wish to make a statement about the particular incident involving Mr White, but he would comment regarding the company’s cancellation procedure.

‘Aurigny has always employed a degree of flexibility regarding the cancellation of bookings over the telephone as abuse of the system was extremely rare.’

But he added that in light of the recent incident, booking security would be tightened.

A while ago I found out to my horror that anybody can just go up or phone telecoms and change or delete an entry to the phone book and yellow pages without having to give any information either.
I had a business number stolen by a competitor in this way.

I think Malcolm Hart is using a bit of spin doctoring to describe Aurigny’s bizarre cancellation policy as flexible, amateurish would be a little more accurate.

At least it will now be rectified, although why it took a complaint to the local paper to do this is a little concerning to Aurigny’s clientele. A more professional airline would be continually reviewing its procedures, identifying problems such as this and making the necessary changes as a matter of course. What other loopholes in Aurigny’s booking processes are yet to be discovered by some unsuspecting soul?
