Hamon’s invitation boost

SARNIAN Jo Hamon (pictured) , who is ranked eighth in the UK for women’s sprint track cycling, has been invited to join the Spanish team, Reyno de Navarro.
The team, whose members include Jose Antonio Escuredo who won a silver medal at the Athens Olympics in 2004, will allow Hamon to compete in the UCI World Cup Series, which is a crucial step on the road to the Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2010.
To qualify for the Games, Hamon is required to attain twice in competition the qualifying standard stipulated for 500m time trial by the Guernsey Commonwealth Games Association.
However, since the event was replaced in the Olympic Games by BMX, there is less inclusion of the 500m TT.
Therefore, it is essential that she rides events such as World Cups in order to have the opportunity to qualify.
‘Riding for a team such as Reyno de Navarro will not only give me the chance to gain that valuable experience on the international scene, but it will also provide me with the opportunity to qualify for the Commonwealth Games and fulfil my dream of representing Guernsey in Delhi,’ Hamon said.
