Four-times limit driver is jailed

Saturday 6th December 2008, 9:30AM GMT.

DRINK-DRIVER Anthony Lawson has been jailed for six months by the Royal Court.

The 44-year-old was more than four times the legal limit when police found him slumped in his car.

Lawson, who admitted he had a drink problem, went on a two-day ‘bender’ in October after separating from his wife.

When he went to collect some belongings from the former marital home, he had already drunk eight cans of lager.

He drove into Town where he carried on drinking in a pub before driving to where he was staying. He drank more there before driving back into Town to get a take-away.

Lawson then attempted to drive home, but took a wrong turn and ended up in Le Marchant Street, where he hit a parked van.

The owner was alerted and he and Lawson exchanged details. The van owner had to help Lawson move his car.

When police arrived, they found Lawson slumped over the steering wheel. He failed to supply a breath test on two occasions and the third reading showed he was not blowing into the machine.

I see what your saying Andy but lets remember DRINK DRIVING IS A REAL KILLER and I think in this instance the driver should have got a longer sentence,it was only sheer luck that he did not kill or distroy someones life.Drink drivers are a real danger! Lets hope the judges have a bit more common sense too on the way they sentence sick child abusers who deserve BIG sentences… or a rope round their necks.

    Andy is right…

Whilst this guy clearly deserved to go to prison – a child molester only gets 3 months more??

THis proves that the Guernsey judicial service is a complete & utter joke!
