FOSTER and adoption carers are needed urgently.

There has been a good response this year to an appeal for adoptive parents. But the number of inquiries from those interested in becoming foster carers has been low.

Fostering and adoption team manager Greta Souter said many people did not realise that there are children waiting for a foster family.

There is an urgent need for carers with a variety of skills to provide family foster placements for children of all ages up to 16, she said.

‘Our fostering campaign in May raised awareness in the community that we are very reliant on people coming forward, whether they are Guernsey people or licence holders. We welcome enquiries from all sectors of the community.

‘The more foster carers we have, the better we are able to match the needs of children to carers as we need to have choices when making placements.’

Speaking as a foster/adoptive/biological parent of twelve kids, I can assure anyone thinking that they might like to give a kid a hand, that fostering and adopting is extremely worthwhile. We fostered about 50 kids, and adopted eight of them. We loved every minute of it, even the tough times.

    Cheers
