CHRIS SIMPSON has ended 2008 in perfect fashion.
The 21-year-old Sarnian squash player was delighted to win his second PSA Tour title with victory at the Servus Credit Union Edmonton Open in Canada at the weekend and wants to use the result as a stepping stone to even better things.
‘It’s a great way to finish the year,’ Simpson said. ‘Hopefully I can carry this momentum into next year to continue to improve my ranking,’ added the man who is currently number 62 in the world. That should climb when the new rankings are announced at the start of next month.
Having overcome qualifier Matthew Serediak and then John Rooney, both in straight games, to reach the semi-finals and match his number four seeding, Simpson came up against American Gilly Lane on Saturday for a place in the final.
The Sarnian showed his astute tactical awareness to come from behind and win a five-setter 11-7, 5-11, 9-11, 11-4, 11-5.
