0609545.jpgUSING L’Eree as a temporary harbour to ship in materials for airport work would damage the visitor trade, according to hotelier Mark Frost (pictured).

The proprietor of the L’Eree Bay Hotel said such a move would be harmful and unnecessary.

‘Will tourists really want to look out on a temporary port and see lorries going back and forth all the time?’ he said.

‘How much would it cost the tax-payer to build this harbour when we already have two in Guernsey that could cope with that sort of traffic?’

The idea of the port was raised as an option by Public Services minister Bernard Flouquet at a public presentation on the runway project. Mr Frost said he understood the need for such work and believed the runway should be extended at the same time.

‘We have to look at the bigger picture,’ he said. ‘If we extend the runway now, it will open Guernsey up to a whole new range of operators and destinations.’
