The UK Government announced its ban yesterday, which could come into force by 2011 and is aimed at stopping youngsters smoking. Plans for a total ban on vending machines and branding on cigarette packets will not go ahead at the moment, but the moves have not been ruled out for the future.

Health promotion officer Gerry Le Roy said Guernsey was working to implement a package of legislation which included banning advertising at the point of sale. This did not currently include banning the product display, but the authorities were always looking at further ways to reduce the prevalence of smoking.

‘Currently in Guernsey, unsupervised vending machines should require tokens which have to be purchased over a bar or shop counter, thereby restricting their use by people under 18 years of age,’ she said. Mrs Le Roy said vending machines which were supervised could be operated using coins.

A healthy lifestyle survey has just been conducted and figures showing any change to the number of people smoking since the ban on doing so in enclosed public places came into force on 1 July 2006 will be available early next year.

Health promotion officer Gerry Le Roy doesn’t know what she’s talking about. The dictate to shops of tobacco display is NOT being implemented in Britain, it has been shelved. Regards the Canadian scheme it’s made zero difference and is a proven waste of time.

Regards smoking and Gsy Health authorities, like all others in the world, they are based on prejudice (science fiction) not science fact. The health authorities do not have a clue how to extend life. Smoking does not shorten your lifespan in the rolled dice of our lives.

The oldest people in the world are smokers including the oldest person that ever lived, Madame Jean Claument (121) who loved strong French cigarettes, sweets, gourmet food, the daily downing of wine and port and rich stews. All the things these health fascists are trying to stop us enjoying – who asked them not to mind their own business?

The oldest man ever in Britain, Henry Alingham (112), is a smoker as is the worlds oldest marathon runner, Buster who advises stopping for a pint and a ciggy is part of of training regime.

The truth is the health authorities do not have a clue how to extend lifespan because all their junk science is based on speculation and chance. Smokers for example suffer from less cancers than non-smokers. Smokers have a 4 times increase chance lung cancer but that chance is microscopic so the difference in risk like arguing about trivia.

Also passive smoking risk is junk science. All the major studies show no statistically significant risk living or working with smokers. In fact the only statistically significant figure from these studies is children of smokers show an increased immunity to diseases like lung cancer.

The health fascists are pushing us toward a purile lifestyle that is dangerous because it reduces small exposures (like smoking and drinking) to risks which kick our immune system to work. These jobsworths actually know nothing about health, they have no science, just a chip on their shoulders.

It’s about time they butted out. Smokers Live Longest. Fact.

Allan Johnson said: “This is primarily about children – 11 to 15-year-olds. Advertising has been removed from television, film and newspapers. The only point now where there is advertising is point-of-sale.

This statement is not true. The main cause of children starting to smoke is Actors smoking in films and TV. The majority of films advertises or promotes smoking. Google – smoke free movies now showing.
