Le Page out as big two collide

It says something about the unhealthy repetitive format of top-flight local football, in terms of both the fans and players, that tomorrow’s big Division One clash will be the 10th meeting this calendar year between champions Bels and current leaders North.

The men from Northfield lead the 2008 head-to-head series 6-3, but all bar two of those clashes have been cup ties and the respective coaches agree that it would be wrong to read too much into past results.

Micky Ogier, the Bels boss (pictured), insists there has been no training talk about North having the upper hand and said come kick-off at the Track tomorrow it will be down to finishing.

‘Whoever takes their chances will win the game,’ was his assessment and in that respect he is confident that the acquisition of former Northerner AJ Saunders helps his team.

‘A lot of the time they [North] knock it into the air to Tostevin. But we’ve gained AJ and he came on last week and looked good. [With him] we can get Dave Rihoy back into midfield and create more.’
