North 4, Rovers 0
AN opener after just 38 seconds gave North the belief they needed to defeat the Under-16 Development League leaders last night at Northfield.

Fullback Danny Cooley turned home an early corner to stun Rovers and the visitors never recovered.

On a quarter-of-an-hour, two minutes after Joe Alvarez had hit the bar, Mark Buddle nodded home a left-wing cross at the far post to double the lead and it stayed that way until the break.

The dominant hosts deservedly made it three less than five minutes after the turnaround with Buddle ramming home the rebound with authority after goalkeeper Adam Bullock had denied Will Garnett.

Bullock was shown a straight red card 10min. later for a professional foul on Garnett, who just beat the keeper to a through ball, and from the resultant free-kick, the excellent Tom de la Mare tapped home from a couple of yards to complete the scoring.

Rovers had the chance of a late consolation from the penalty spot after a handball, but Peter Mitchell did well to push Kane de Carteret’s piledriver onto the bar.

Hey there… I was just going to comment on what an awesome game it was. Until now i don’t think the Northerners boys thought they could beat Rovers because of their sheer strength on tha ball.. but last night, we totally dominated the whole game, playing Rovers completely off the park.. Even one of the smallest on the pitch, Will Garnett, was beating the defenders to the ball in the air. All credit to the boys, they’ve all been working very hard in training and it goes to show who the fitter side were. It was the strongest squad we’ve put out all season and all the hard work has definately payed of with fitness, strength, and a huge amount of pace. All in all i want to congratulate the lads for beating the un-defeated Rovers with a huge win, getting us back into the top flight, and of course, back on track for that title win! Plus, it’s always great when you keep a clean sheet, even if i didn’t reli have a clue about the penalty, but still, it’s always nice.

But as my friends reminded me at school today, Rovers were not un-defeated before we played them as Vale Rec beat them 3-2, but i suppose we can say that Rovers haven’t been beaten by a margin like that in a long time.
