Vance opens up

TONY VANCE has spoken for the first time on his reasons why he turned his back on ‘Guernsey United’ to become the island manager.
Vance (pictured) was one of the people who initially got the idea of having a local team play in a competitive league in the UK off the ground.
He said he changed his mind about ‘Guernsey United’, which is now called Guernsey Athletics, when it became clear that it would not be for the island’s senior representative side and that it would be a stand-alone club.
‘I thought it was a good idea but it really should have been done with the Guernsey team,’ he said. Rumours have been flying about that Vance and Ogier had fallen out over the whole affair, but Vance denied this.
‘It’s not a problem,’ he said. ‘He’s wished me all the best and I remain very good friends with him. I don’t think he feels like that either when I speak to him. I wish him well.’
