Perrio wins women’s title but denied two

THE weather saved its worst for last as the highly successful winter cross-country league season ended in thick mud and water in and around Foote’s Lane on Saturday.
The one-mile course is invariably wet in the fields at the back of the Rugby Club, but this year the stream was more of a river, the mud deeper than usual and the field wetter than ever.
But it did not stop from distance running’s fastest couple, Steve Dawes and Louise Perrio (pictured), chalking up another win and in each case walking away with an overall series class success.
Dawes had the Division One and overall title sewn up before the gun, as did Perrio in the women’s standings.
But her attempt also to land the Division Two title was dashed as Dan Smith held on to take the prize, despite finishing fourth in category on the day.
