Get posting, islanders told as Royal Mail strikes loom
Tuesday 16th December 2008, 1:00PM GMT.
POSTAL strikes in the UK will affect Guernsey this Christmas.
Guernsey Post chief executive Gordon Steele said some disruption would follow the planned 24-hour Royal Mail strikes on Friday and that if there was an alternative to relying on Royal Mail, he would take it.
‘The strike will affect postage from Guernsey and ordering from the UK before Christmas, but we are currently working with Royal Mail to put contingency plans in place.’
The extent of the impact on Guernsey was not easy to guess in advance, said the chief executive who is disappointed that some UK postal workers have decided to strike at this time of year.
‘If there were an alternative service we would use it, but there isn’t.’
Industrial action is due to take place in centres including Coventry, Crewe, Liverpool, Stockport, Bolton, Oldham and Oxford.
