‘Sand’ star eyes German challenge

SAND RACING ace Anthony Queripel (pictured) is looking to compete in Germany next year.
The 23-year-old local pulled off one of the performances of the year when he won the Condor Ferries Sand Ace Championship in the face of some very stiff competition from the UK on Vazon beach in June.
And now, after a successful time in the UK grass track season, Queripel has decided to have a go on the German long track scene next summer.
‘It’s really big over there,’ said Queripel. ‘They’ve got the best tracks and a lot of the races are in big stadiums. I’m trying to get as many rides as possible.’
Grass track races take place on 400m to 600m grass circuits while long track are on 1,000m long oval courses. These are also usually on grass, but in Germany some of the tracks are made of shale.
The Eventure-sponsored rider is having some meetings with promoters in January and he is speaking to some of his UK contacts as well about breaking into the German scene.
