Braye Beach is set for rock drop

Wednesday 17th December 2008, 2:29PM GMT.

About 3,500 tons of rock is to be shipped to Alderney and offloaded onto Braye Beach.

The rock, expected to be delivered this month, will be used as the protective outer armour for the island’s commercial quay.

The facility’s £9.5m. redevelopment is ongoing and contractor Geomarine expects to begin using the rock early next year.

States engineer Julie Turner said using Braye Beach as a storage area was the best solution.

‘The most practical and efficient way to bring in and offload the rock is with a self-discharging side-tipping ship at high tide on Braye Beach,’ said Ms Turner. ‘This will be a complex operation, dictated by tides and ship return periods.

‘The rock is being delivered from Cherbourg and a suitable vessel, MV Jopi, is available shortly to bring the stone.’

Apparently they’re ‘the wrong sort of rocks’…………

Just hope they’ve gone again before Alderney Week unlike the film-set ‘house frontage’ across Braye St which are still there over a year after the Hollywood themed Alderney Week.
