Legion waits for news on pensions blunder

RETIRED servicemen and women in Guernsey are waiting to hear if a UK Government blunder will hit their pensions.
Following a statement this week by Chancellor Alistair Darling, former army, air force and navy personnel – as well as some ex-civil servants – are unsure if their money will be cut from April because of the discovery of overpayments thought to total tens of millions.
The government has said that any cash already paid will not be clawed back and a further statement is imminent. Letters are being sent to those affected.
Secretary of the local Royal British Legion Kevin O’Kane (pictured) said the problem could affect any islander in receipt of a Ministry of Defence pension.
As a non-political organisation, the Legion was unable to comment on the government’s actions but its social services committee was concerned that some locals could be among those affected.

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
Those that have received these over payments must have realised they were living rather well.
They need to repay what they owe. Are they wishing those that are expecting to receive what they should go wihout and make do with less for them then.
Maybe it would be a good start to look into the personal wealth of those that have reaped more than they should. If they can afford it demand it back instantly.
They have received it and now they should be forced to slowly repay it back. Even if they will b a bit less comfotable. At times like these things need to be distributed fairly amongst all.
Greedy fatcats need to get used to equal measures.
