A NUMBER of cracking goals marked the Old Vic Cup final at Blanche Pierre Lane last night.
But it was North who were victorious in the former Youth One competition that, for the first time this season, has been for the new under-21 development league.
‘I’m delighted and I thought we thoroughly deserved it,’ said North U-21 boss Ross Cameron. ‘As the game progressed I thought there was only going to be one winner and I’m delighted that it’s us.
‘If we keep playing like that, we’ll go on and win the league.’
North’s talented striker Nigel Hutton put his side ahead after 25 minutes when he smacked Jon Loaring’s wicked cross into the roof of the net.
Bels’ Charlie Pinsard cancelled that out a couple of minutes later with an absolutely brilliant free kick that flew into the top corner.
The parity lasted until midway through the second half when the chocolate-and-blues pushed ahead again after Jamie Tolcher’s deep cross-cum-shot from out wide sailed over Bels keeper Will Jarrold.
An own goal from Bels’ Division One coach Micky Ogier, who was playing in the centre of defence, when he got a foot on James Mullen’s vicious strike across the goal, made it 3-1 to North.
The match was only marred when Bels captain Dave Martin and Pinsard were sent off in injury time, both for something they said to referee Mark Fallaize.
