Mahon’s return boosts North

KIERAN MAHON (pictured) has put his professional career on hold and returned to North.
After coming through the FootballCV Academy, the 17-year-old Sarnian secured a YTS contract with Northampton Town at the start of the season.
Mahon, who likes to play in the centre of midfield, turned out for the Coca-Cola League One side’s reserves, but he became disillusioned and he fell out with the club’s youth director.
‘I wasn’t really comfortable at Northampton and I wasn’t performing to my best,’ he said. ‘I was getting played in different positions every week.’
Mahon denied that he has come back to Guernsey because he was homesick and he has not given up on his dream of becoming a professional footballer.
‘I’ve had a lot of scouts ring me and I’m going to stay around here for about a month and decide what I want to do,’ he said.
