States projects worth millions shelved in a bid to prioritise
Monday 22nd December 2008, 2:29PM GMT.
THE capital-prioritisation process has weeded out millions of pounds-worth of projects from the debate, Treasury and Resources has said.
Small working groups of senior staff from across all States departments have been assessing the merits of nearly 30 projects, worth a combined £400m.
These include construction, general equipment and IT and have been put forward by departments for the capital prioritisation debate – which the States is due to hold in March.
Some long-term schemes have been shelved by departments which recognise that a priority case cannot be made for them during the next few years.
‘Essentially, we have a procedure now that takes something departments think they need for delivering their business plan, and which will need an injection of capital from the capital reserve,’ said Alan Jones, head of strategy and compliance at States Property Services, part of Treasury and Resources.
