EARLY signs are that Guernsey’s new validation selection process will lead to a much larger team representing us in India in October 2010.

Twenty-six competitors travelled to Melbourne in March 2006, but it could be near double that number four years on.

Meanwhile, representatives of member sports are understandably enthused at the offer of sizeable subsidies from the organisers to assist with preparation.

Peter Sirett, chairman of the GCGA, would not reveal exact amounts of Delhi funding, but said the money was there to be used as long as the sports’ preparation plans were SMART compliant:-

That will involve the following:

S – Specific: It must show clearly what it aims to achieve
M – Measurable: performance against the objective must be measurable
A – Achievable: the objectives must be achievable

R – Realistic: the objectives must be realistic

T – Time-based: The objectives must be time-based and performance milestones established to ensure progress can be monitored throughout the lead up to the Games.
