‘Dog is for life’ slogan back after 30 years

A DOG is for life not just for Christmas is a theme that is making a comeback this season.
The Dogs Trust slogan, first used 30 years ago, is being resurrected because of the credit crunch.
In the UK, dog rescue shelters are at bursting point caring for animals that owners can no longer afford to keep.
Locally the situation is not as dire, but Lorna Prince, welfare manager for the GSPCA, said that it was becoming a concern.
‘The message has been said year on year, but there’s a new generation of pet owners and children that need to be taught that animals aren’t disposable and shouldn’t be given as gifts,’ she said.
‘It’s really important that people can provide for the dog’s needs and the animal’s future. They are more expensive than people realise.
‘Dogs are for life. They shouldn’t be given as presents. And Christmas is not the time to bring an animal into the house.’
