MILKMAN John Jaap has set up his own driveway business amid the present uncertainty surrounding the dairy industry.

He is now one of 21 approved installers in the British Isles licensed to lay down decorative stone driveways, patios and paths.

Mr Jaap said he had already made the decision to take on the Guernsey franchise of Stonebond before the conclusion of the States debate in October, which saw deputies reject Deputy Mary Lowe’s amendment that would have given the retailers exclusivity on delivering milk products.

‘I just don’t see any future in the dairy industry any longer. The uncertainty has been ongoing for three years.

‘I would like to sell my round but I don’t think there is a market for them any more. I doubt I would find anyone who wants to buy it.’

That is why Mr Jaap, a milkman for the past four years, is so eager to make his new business a success.
