Bailiwick’s digital radio date is late, but a review is due

0669999.jpgTHE future of digital radio in Guernsey is up for review.

This comes after former Island FM presenter Kevin Stewart (pictured) said the island was in danger of being left alone in the analogue age if pressure was not put on the Ofcom regulator.

There has been some progress since, he said, but islanders are still not getting what they are paying for.

‘You pay the same licence fee here as everywhere in the UK but you get half the stations that they do,’ he said. ‘But the Digital Radio Working Group is bringing a report this week, reviewing the future of digital radio, and this will feature Guernsey.’

He said more information should follow soon.‘The UK minister of communication, Lord Carter, will be making a further announcement in January.’

Unless plans change, Guernsey will not have digital radio until 2012, one of the latest dates in the UK.

‘My view is that they ought to move Guernsey up the list – Ofcom put the Channel Islands on the backburner.’
