0503755.jpgTREVOR GALLIENNE (pictured) has many interests – and he is the best in the world at one.

In Jersey last month, the 52-year-old local bookmaker took care of England number one Kevin Tunstall in the final of the World Bar Billiards Championship to become only the third player in 27 years successfully to defend the title.

It is also the third time that Gallienne has been crowned world champion after first winning the competition in 1988.

More than 200 players had entered this year. ‘I’m massively pleased,’ said Gallienne. ‘I suppose even more so this year because I had an incredibly difficult group.’

While one island world champion was retaining his title, another had to relinquish his after three amazing years.

‘I can’t pretend I enjoyed giving up my crown, but my mate Yvan Muller is a worthy champion and if I have to loan it to anyone then I am happy with it being him,’ said World Touring Car Championship star Andy Priaulx.

‘He did a great job this year, but I now give him warning I want it back.’
