Favourities live up to their billing

CRAIG YOUNG grabbed the decisive goal last night at the Corbet Field as North beat Vale Rec 1-0 to lift the Stranger Cup.

The match-winning moment came on 70min. and was created by man-of-the-match Glyn Dyer’s brilliant run down the left wing. His subsequent cross found Nigel Hutton at the far post and he teed up Young to score from just a few yards out.

‘We were superior to them and in terms of chances we created far more,’ said North coach Mick Le Prevost, whose squad was stretched due to the unavailablity of his son Alex, Gavin Le Page, Matt Loaring and Kieran Mahon.

‘I said to the lads at half-time that we had had four or five chances to every one of theirs, but we needed to take one.

‘We kept bombarding their goal, finally we got the breakthrough and I am really pleased for the players.’
