McFarlane is simply irresistible

0584330.jpgFOR a week in May, Garry McFarlane (pictured) was unstoppable.

By late afternoon of Saturday 17, word had quickly spread around the island that the 34-year-old Scot had broken the L’Ancresse course record in winning the LGC Centenary Trophy, sponsored by Wave Telecom.

His bogey-free gross 63, which has since been equalled by Bobby Eggo, culminated in three successive birdies, with McFarlane holing a six-and-a-half-foot putt on the last following a superb seven iron considering the circumstances.

‘Conditions were certainly good and it was one of those days when I did not make any mistakes,’ he said.

‘I did not miss many greens and, when I did, I came very close to canning the chips or putts from just off the fringe. I do not think I had a par putt from outside 3ft all day.’

But that was just the start because two days later the Fortis Island Championship got under way.
